Proofreading covers surface-level errors: spelling, grammar, missing words, punctuation, etc. It's best suited for those writers who are satisfied with their writing and would simply like to catch and remove any mistakes/errors. I keep the Track Changes function active so that you may see and actively accept my changes.

Copy editing goes deeper than proofreading. In addition to covering the same elements of proofreading, I focus on improving clarity, coherence, and flow. If sentences are structured awkwardly or using too many words, I'll offer suggestions for revisions. I typically leave comments, sharing with the author what my understandings and misunderstandings are so that my changes are contextualized. I keep the Track Changes function active so that you may see and actively accept my changes.

Formatting involves anything from fixing tables/figures and creating Tables of Contents to adjusting spacing, creating page numbers, and ensuring the level headings are consistent. Unless you'd like me to simply format your entire document, you as the author can specify my focus area, thereby controlling how much time/effort is required.

Reference checks involve checking and correcting your reference pages. I have typically worked with authors using APA but can work with other formats as well. The fee for reference checks are based on the number of entries: 1-50 ($15), 51-100 ($30), 101-150 ($40), 151-200 ($55), and so on in $15 increments.
